Blu-ray player: alternate firmware update methods

For a network-enabled device, the best way to update your player's firmware is to simply connect to the network and initiate the update through the menu.  However, if you are unable to connect to the network and perform an update, there is an alternate method available to install the latest firmware. These periodic updates are beneficial to continue enjoyment of the latest video releases.
USB Method:
If your player does not connect to the update server due to server maintenance or temporary downtime, and you have a PC with a working internet connection you can download the update manually from our service website.
-
Once at the support website perform a search for your particular model number.
Near the bottom of the product support page, click the drivers and software tab. You will now see the latest version of the firmware available for the player.
You will see a zip file that contains the firmware and a PDF file that will have detailed installation instructions.

Download the .zip file and save it to an easy to find location like your desktop.

In Windows XP, simply right click on the file and select extract all.
Extract the file in Windows XP. You will usually be prompted asking if you want the computer to open the window to the extracted file.
With the file extracted, right click on the update file and select [send to] and choose your USB Drive. Windows will make a copy of the firmware update to the root directory of your USB drive.
Now that the firmware update has been copied to your USB flash drive, go to your Blu-ray player and power it on. Wait until the home menu appears and insert your USB drive into the player.
The update window will appear displaying the versions of current firmware in white, and the version saved on the USB device.
Press [ENTER] on the remote control or [Play] on the front of the player to start the update process. The update can take approximately 4 minutes to complete. When the update is complete the unit will turn off automatically.
After the player has powered off, remove your USB device and power back on the player.
CD / DVD Method:
The CD / DVD method is very similar to using the flash drive. However, you will need to have a blank CD or DVD and software on your PC that will allow you to burn a data CD or DVD.
Burn the firmware update file directly to the root directory of the CD / DVD. Finalize or close out the burning project.
Turn on your Blu-ray player and wait until the home menu is visible on the screen. Insert the CD or DVD and wait for the update menu to appear. Then press [ENTER] on the remote or [Play] on the player itself. Allow the update process to run until it completes. The player will automatically turn off. Power on the player and eject your CD / DVD.
