My dishwasher isn't cleaning.

What can you do when your dishwasher isn't cleaning?

Helpful Hints:

1.       Oily or heavily soiled dishes should be rinsed to remove any excess. If dishes have hard, dried on food (such as pasta or rice) then there may remain some particles of food. The unit does have a food grinder built in to break up food so that it can drain.

2.       Make sure you have enough space between your dishes for the water and the detergent. Placing to many dishes together will cause improper cleaning. It can also block the sprayer arms that clean the dish during cleaning cycle.

3.       Too much detergent will leave film on dishes. Not enough will prevent proper cleaning. Too much rinse aid can cause foam, which appears on the bottom of the tub and on dishes. Not enough can leave spots and streaks. Use only the amounts recommended in OM according to load type and cycle.

4.       If the dispenser does not open during the cycle, the dishes will not be properly cleaned during the cycle. Make certain that nothing on the top rack is pressing against the dispenser tray door, preventing it from opening. If the top rack is in lowest position, it will block the dispenser door.

5.       Dried on foods may not wash off dishes as well. Rinse dishes off prior to loading, especially if a wash cycle is not going to be run immediately. Also, be sure not to put detergent in the dispenser more than an hour prior to beginning the cycle.

6.       Make certain the spray arms are attached properly and turning freely. The water pressure generated by the motor turns them, so if they are not attached proper they will not turn and wash. Also, make certain that no dishes or utensils are in the path of a spray arm (blocking it from turning).

7.       If the spray arms are not properly connected, water pressure is reduced. Furthermore, water may not be able to come out all of the spray holes. Make certain that the spray arms are connected properly. Also, make certain that the arms are cleaned so that none of the spray holes are blocked.

8.       Hard water is from the water supply, not the dishes. If hard water is causing white film or powder in unit, a softener may need to be installed. Vinegar can be used to remove this film. Use 1oz. or 2 tablespoons and run a cycle with no dishes or detergent.

9.       Making sure that the proper cleaning cycle was selected when washer is started can reduce improper cleaning. Refer to Owners Manual for cleaning options.

10.    Too much detergent will leave film on dishes. Not enough will prevent proper cleaning. Too much rinse aid can cause foam, which appears on the bottom of the tub and on dishes. Not enough can leave spots and streaks. Use only the amounts recommended in OM according to load type and cycle.

Tech tips:

1.       If the water pressure is below 20psi this will affect the power of the cleaning jets inside your unit. Water pressure should range from 20-120psi. to maintain proper cleaning.

2.       If the drain hose is longer than 10ft. or it is not installed properly this will affect the cleaning performance. It can cause food and water to stay in the tub after the wash cycle and redeposit food back onto the dishes. Also check to see if the hose has any kinks this can also have a similar effect on the drain cycle.

3.       If the water temperature is too low this can cause the detergent to not be completely dissolved or clean the dishes properly. An adjustment to your water temperature may help if this is the issue.

4.       If your water heater that supplies your dishwasher is too far away then the water that goes into the dishwasher will be cold. Dishwashers use so little water that if this happens it will spend most of the time in the wash cycle heating the water. Run the sink water until it begins to get hot prior to operating the dishwasher.

5.       Your water may be too hard and require a water softener; these can be found at any home improvement store. It is recommended to use a HE (High Energy) product in the correct amount during use of this unit.
