New User Interface for the N2R1
A new User Interface (UI) is available for the N2R1 series of LG NAS devices. Although not required, we recommend you upgrade your firmware to the new UI.
While installing the new UI, the NAS will be initialized. This means the NAS will be re-formatted. You must back up all of your data if you wish to upgrade to the new UI.
There only a few disadvantages to upgrading, but there are many advantages. The advantages are listed below in new features and updates. Disadvantages to upgrading are: Hard Drives must be re-formatted, iSCSI for the optical drive is no longer supported, and learning a new user interface.

There only a few disadvantages to upgrading, but there are many advantages. The advantages are listed below in new features and updates.
Disadvantages to upgrading are:
- Hard Drives must be re-formatted.
- DD iSCSI, WebDAV, Mobile UI, RAID1+JBOD and Hibernation mode (Only standby mode is supported) are not supported anymore in New UI. If you want to keep using this feature, please do NOT upgrade to the New UI.
- eSATA and Memory card support is removed (USB still works).
- Learning a new user interface.
- Downgrade to the previous UI is NOT supported.

- Community Board
- This is a bulletin board for sharing info with other users on the NAS
- Multimedia Browser
- System resource status information check (CPU. Memory, LAN Bandwidth Transfer)
- New User can request an account
- A new user can request account to access the NAS.
- Home monitoring feature (via USB web cam)
- HDD SMART check and HDD Inspection
Feature update:
- FTP advanced options support
- MLSD/FXP options support
- Passive ports are changeable
- Brightness (LED) and Sound (Buzzer) Settings to on or off
- The current access status check by services (Web, CIFS (samba), AFP, FTP, NFS)
- Torrent destination folder is changeable
- Auto firmware update
- If a user click a ‘Auto upgrade’ button, NAS checks if there is new firmware. If there it is, NAS download and update it automatically.
- Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) support
- iTunes 10.5 support
